There have
been eight new publications added to the Forum. The first one can be found
posted in Delphi, Visteon and American Axle. The article is a release from the
Associated Press reporting that a federal judge has confirmed auto parts
supplier Visteon’s reorganization plan, clearing the way for the company’s
emergence from bankruptcy.
Five new
posts have been placed under the GM, Ford and Chrysler tab. The first article comes
from the Detroit News telling that Chrysler Group LLC dealers who came to
Detroit worried about how much it would cost to add the Fiat brand to their
showrooms, emerged from a meeting Monday with Chrysler officials energized
about the brand and eager to submit their bids for a franchise. The second article
comes from a Free Press Business Writer stating that Chrysler dealers might get
a shot at selling as many as five Alfa Romeo models, beginning in late 2012, if
they are lucky enough to be chosen as one of the 160 Fiat dealers to sell the
tiny 500 City Car, beginning late this year. The third article comes from the
Free Press Staff and News Services reporting that the 2011 Buick Regal has
received a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway
Safety, beating models from targeted brands Lexus and Infiniti. Look out,
Detroit is Back! The fourth article comes from the DRIVEON section of USA
TODAY. It tells that Chevrolet management is going to ask dealers to buy a
Honda Civic and a Toyota Corolla on site so Chevy Cruze customers can comparison
shop. GM says it hopes buyers will find the interiors to be a step up from the
competition. The fifth article comes from the Business Day section of the New
York Times. It states that having emerged from bankruptcy, the revitalized New
GM has recently reported $1.3B in quarterly earnings, but the Old GM, a grim
collection of shuttered auto plants, vacant office space and toxic industrial
sites is one step closer to extinction, it is being sold for parts.
One new post
has been entered into the Open Discussion section. The article comes from the
Wheels section of the New York Times. It reports that the United Services
Automobile Association, the financial services company that caters to the
military, is arming customers with a new secret weapon when they shop for their
next car. Although USAA is for members of the military, it also allows direct
relatives and spouses to join, including children and grandchildren of people
who served in the armed forces. All too many times, unethical auto dealerships
will take advantage of military personnel and now it is good to hear that
somebody is looking out for the interests of the brave men and women, and their
families, who have or are serving to protect our great country.
One new post
has been placed in the Opinion category. The article comes from the Detroit
News and while telling that on Wednesday, Daniel “melon head” Akerson
officially will become GM’s fourth CEO in 17 months, it asks the questions;
will Akerson’s GM be about winning or just staying in the game and will success
be measured in constantly tinkering with marketing programs at the expense of
nut and bolts product programs (the same ones that are producing better
vehicles now than anytime in GM’s modern history)? A lot of questions remain
unanswered by the incoming top executive Dan “melon head” Akerson.
