9 posts in Forum from Delphi building $25M lab to used car prices climbing
Monday, August 30, 2010 - 11:16 PM

There have been nine new publications added to the Forum. The first one is posted in UAW national, regional and local specific topics area. The article comes from the Indianapolis Star and gives more information on the meeting held on Sunday between Justin Norman and the workers at the Indianapolis stamping plant. GM executives three years ago scheduled the shutdown of the 2.1M-square foot metal plant in 2011 if no buyers appeared. This spring, JD Norman Industries of Addison, IL. agreed to take over the factory if UAW Local 23 accepted a new contract that cuts costs.

One new post can be found in the Delphi, Visteon and American Axle section. The article is a release from the Associated Press reporting that Delphi Automotive plans to construct a new engineering lab building, in central Indiana, as part of a $25M project.

Four new posts have been placed under the GM, Ford and Chrysler tab. The first article comes from the Detroit News Washington Bureau. It gives more information on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opening a preliminary investigation into whether 223,000 2007-2008 Jeep Wranglers are spilling fuel during fill-ups. The second article, also from the DNWB, states that Ford Motor Co. will provide free financial advice to more than 150,000 retirees and employees, in agreeing to settle a 4-year-old shareholder lawsuit that says the automaker should not have allowed them to invest so much of their retirement funds in company stock through their 401(k) plans. Maybe the free advice they give them will be to invest in GM’s IPO. The third article comes from the Detroit News telling that General Motors Co. said on Monday that the 2011 Buick Regal has received top crash performance marks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The fourth article comes from AOL Autos reporting that Ford is set to turn out the lights on the Mercury brand for good, but not before giving consumers a last shot at some deals and a piece of history. I am really going to miss the Mercury brand, just as I miss the Pontiac brand. No more Cougars and no more Firebirds.

One new post has made it into Hodgepodge. The article comes from AOL News. It asks the question, is it a violation of your 4th Amendment rights for police to place a GPS device on your car if it isn’t parked in the garage?

Two new posts have been entered into the Open Discussion portion of the Forum. The first article comes from the Detroit News reporting that used car prices are climbing and the pool of available models is drying up one year after the federal “cash for clunkers” program spurred consumers to scrap old cars for new ones. The second article comes from the Detroit News Washington Bureau telling that federal regulators are considering giving all new vehicles letter grades on fuel efficiency, a move that could deter consumers from buying the least efficient gas guzzlers.
